Damaged Testes
Their effect on your fertility…
Medical and Environmental fertility problems
The testes hang outside the body and are designed to be two degrees cooler than the rest of the body. The sperm is susceptible to damage from excess heat which could be caused by underwear holding the testes tight against the body or by excess saunas or hot baths. Some medical conditions or medication can reduce sperm count either temporarily or permanently. Abuse of anabolic steroids or recreational drugs can leave a lasting effect as can exposure to radiation or chemicals.
Sexual, Erectile or Ejaculatory dysfunction
All these can result in male infertility but there are a number of solutions available to, or recommended by, your doctor.
Genetic Infertility problems
Genetic problems can affect fertility or the health of future progeny. For example, certain problems, such as blocked vas deferens have been linked to the presence of cystic fibrosis genes. These kind of genetic problems are usually inherited rather than being first generation mutations and can often be identified through family histories. Testing can be of the parent to identify whether he is a carrier, or of the embryo through a process called pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, to see whether it has dominant copies of the mutated gene.
